Channel Request


The Channel Request feature in Teams Manager enables users to create requests for new channels within managed teams. This powerful functionality allows for seamless collaboration and team organization. After users submit their channel requests, administrators or designated approvers review and make decisions based on the provided information. This guide outlines the step-by-step process of creating a channel request and highlights the subsequent review and approval process.


Channel types:


Microsoft Teams offers standard, private, and shared channels to accommodate various collaboration needs. Default channels are accessible to all team members, private channels restrict access for confidential discussions, and shared channels enable collaboration with external organizations.


Standard channel:

- Accessible to all team members.

- Enables file sharing, conversations, and collaboration.

- Customizable settings for team owners.


Private channel:

- Restricted collaboration space for select team members.

- Confidential discussions and file sharing.

- Separate tabs, files, and conversations.

- Created and managed by team owners.


Shared channel:

- Facilitates collaboration with external organizations.

- Cross-organizational communication and project collaboration.

- Created and managed by team owners or admins.

- External participants can access conversations, files, and tabs.


Add Channel Request


This section describes the steps for creation of Channel Request from Request tab/Teams tab and from Infopage.


From the Requests tab in Teams Manager:


Go to Teams Manager and navigate to the Requests tab.


Click on the "Add Request" button to open a new window.


In the window, locate the Channel section.


Proceed to the next page and select the type of request: Channel, Private Channel, or Shared Channel, eg Private Channel.

Choose the desired team eg.DHP-NewTeam  for the request.


Click the "Next" button and provide a name eg PrivateChannel-001 and description for the request.

Add members to the channel and click on Add button.

Finally, click the "Create" button to successfully create the request from the Requests tab.


Bot and email notifications are sent.


Created Channel Requests are displayed under Open tab in Channel Request tab in Request tab.



From the Teams tab in Teams Manager:


Navigate to the Teams tab.


Click on the "Create a team" button to open a new window.


In the window, locate the Channel section.


Proceed to the next page and select the type of request: Channel, Private Channel, or Shared Channel, eg. Standard Channel.


Choose the desired team eg. StandardChannel-01  for the request.

Click the "Next" button and provide a name and description for the request.


Finally, click the "Create" button to successfully create the request from the Requests tab.


Bot and email notifications are sent.

Created Channel Requests are displayed under Open tab under Channel Request tab in Request tab.


From the team Infopage tab:

First, create the Infopage tab (refer to the documentation for Infopage creation).

Once the Infopage tab is created, you will see the "General Information" and "Policy and Metadata" sections.

In the "Add channel request" section, click the corresponding button.

Choose the type of request: Channel, Private Channel, or Shared Channel, eg. Shared Channel.

Provide a name eg. SharedChannel001 and description for the request.

Select the members and click on Add button.

Click the "Create" button to successfully create the request from the Infopage tab.

Bot and email notifications are sent.


Created Channel Requests are displayed under Open tab in Channel Request tab in Request tab.


This completes the functionality on creation of Channel Requests in Teams Manager.
